Close To Col D'Olen...
The Refuge Guglielmina, built by the Guglielmina family, hotelliers by ancient tradition, was the highest hotel in Europe in its time. Having played a major role in the mountaineering history of the Monte Rosa (among the many guests here was the Queen margherita of Savoy), it was reopened as an Alpine refuge by descendants of the same family who built it. Il is situated in a strategic position at 2880 mt. between the valleys of Alagna and Gressoney and can be reached by using the lifts. During the summer months it is a starting point for easy mountain excursions, while to the experts, it offers the opportunity of reaching the high peaks of Monte Rosa. During the winter season it is frequented by keen skiiers and, thanks to its ideal position, is the perfect location for off-piste skiing and heliskiing. In the winter evenings during the full moon, night time descents are organised by torchlight. The inside of the refuge is rustic and comfortable, traditionally furnished in the style of its period. There are 40 beds, with twin rooms all equipped with warm quilts. The simple, good home cooking and typical dishes are synonymous of the warmth of the refuge. The well stocked wine-cellar houses a wide choice of the finest quality wines for Piemonte and Aosta Valley regions. The refuge also happily accepts dogs.
