History of the "Ricovero al Col D'Olen"
Guglielmina was also helped by the priest Giovanni Gnifetti and Doctor Giovanni Giordani(who also wrote a famous grammar dictionary), who were not by chance part of the successful expedition in 1842. As a matter of fact, in the many letters wrote to Farinetti(a famous theologian) they urged the Guglielmina family to increase their local activity so as to improve tourism: they fully understood that they need to build a high-flying lodge from which it could be possible to reach Punta del Segnale. Unfortunately, the priest from Alagni wasn’t able to see his dream come true, as he died just a few years before the hotel was built. But Giordani’s project to find “stakeholders among mountain lovers” got off the ground and from the 1875 on we read on newspapers that a signing was opened, under auspices of the varallese section of C.A.I: “A signing by the hotel Monte Rosa in Alagna to raise the money necessary to the building of a refuge hut on Colle dell’Olen”.
